FAMOUS PUNJABI-LANGUAGE RAPPER SIDHU MOOSE WALA SHOT DEAD IN INDIA
Officials have confirmed that Sidhu Moose Wala, a Punjabi-language music producer and rapper, was shot to death in India. He was 28 years old.
Moose Wala was a 1993 Indian citizen who was born in Moosa in the Mansa region of Punjab. After completing an Indian electrical engineering degree, he move to Brampton in Ontario in 2016.
His slick music videos and charge rap performances made him famous all over the world, particularly in the Punjabi diaspora.
According to police, Moose Wala left his home around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. He was driving in a jeep with two others.
Police say that three people were driving in front of Moose Wala and two others, when they arrive at Jawaharke village, Mansa district, around 5:30 p.m.
Moose Wala sustain injuries and was later declare dead. Police say that the slaying was likely to have been the result of a “inter-gang rivalry.”
The actor and rapper had also been a part of the acting world. He join the Indian National Congress party last.
He had been a candidate in the Punjab state elections of 2022 and lost to Dr. Vijay Singla, of the Aam Aadmi Party. This party is the ruling party both in Punjab and Delhi.
Bhagwant Man , Punjab State Chief Minister, tweeted his condolences for Moose Wala. A statement from Congress party said that the death was “a terrible shock to both the Congress party and the nation.”
Iconic in Punjabi diaspora
After moving to Canada, Moose Wala enjoy great success in the Punjabi-language rap music scene. After moving to Canada, he has perform for sold-out audiences in Winnipeg, Toronto, and was an iconic figure in Surrey (B.C.), Canada’s second largest South Asian community.
As part of his Back 2 Business Tour across Canada, he was scheduled to perform at Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum July 23. The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), a Vancouver summer fair, was responsible for the concert.
Laura Ballance, spokesperson for the PNE said that ticket sales for Moose Wala concert were delay because organizers check security details. Discussions were schedule to take place with the musician this week about safety.
She said, “It’s tragic to see somebody who is clearly talent, regardless of what people think about his music, and who had a large following… fall prey to violence.”
Moose Wala’s music was influenced by themes of violence and bravado and machismo, especially in relation to Punjabi men and the state affairs in his home country. He was a vocal supporter of India’s widespread farmer protests.
A few singles were released by the rapper in 2017, shortly after he moved to Canada. In 2018, he released his first album PBX 1. His subsequent albums reached the top of the charts in Canada and overseas.
His music videos often received millions of views within a very short time span. They featured excellent production and camera work. His 2018 song, “Its All About You”, was the most-watched YouTube Video on Valentine’s Day 2018.
